The Narwal Freo floor cleaning robot is one of the most interesting devices you may not have heard of before, but it is definitely worth considering. Priced at $1,399, it aligns with similar cleaning solutions from other manufacturers; however, for that price, you will truly get a cleaning solution that you can set and forget. The Freo offers numerous improvements over Narwal’s previous model T10, making it a worthy addition to any home that wants to stay clean.
Sleek Design and User-Friendly
The Freo aims to be a luxury product, and this is evident from the moment you open the box. With its clean, purpose-designed packaging and easy unboxing experience, you will immediately know that this product has a lot to offer.
Enhanced Cleaning Technology
The device has two main parts – the actual Freo floor cleaning robot and the large base station. There’s no doubt that the Freo will attract attention wherever you place it due to its size, so choose carefully the location where you want to set it. Inside the base station, you will find two water tanks – one for clean water and another that fills with dirty water while the Freo cleans itself.
Automatic Detergent Dispensing and Carpet Detection
Previously, you had to deal with adding detergent pods to the clean water tank in the T10, but the Freo now offers a handy detergent bottle holder that automatically dispenses the detergent into the Freo during mopping cycles. The cost of detergent refills is $47, and they should last for a good number of cleaning cycles, at least.
DirtSense Technology and Companion App
The top base station now features a small circular touchscreen that allows you to quickly initiate a specific cleaning cycle for your entire home without needing to use the companion app. It’s useful if you only need to clean the whole space using a single default setting – for more thorough cleaning, you will need to use the app.
Versatile Cleaning Experience
In addition to controlling the device from the base station’s touchscreen, the companion app allows you to customize things according to your cleaning style. Do you want to clean your kitchen twice and just vacuum your office? Just tap on each room in your floor map, and the Freo will do the rest. You can also adjust the suction power for extra messy days or give the floors a quick clean with a single mopping cycle. This means that the Freo is ready to tackle almost any cleaning challenge, big or small. You can also set no-go areas for the robot to avoid completely, although it can be somewhat tricky to pinpoint this accurately using your fingers.
Excellent Cleaning Performance
When it comes to cleaning floors, the Freo does a very good job of picking up daily dirt, food crumbs, and dust from the floor. It can also clean low-pile carpets well, and the side brushes on the Freo do an acceptable job of directing debris toward the main vacuum channel. Spaces are seriously cleaned with the mop, as the Freo scrubs areas well in one or two passes. Sometimes, the mop can leave visible circular stains on certain tiles, and after a series of tests, this was eliminated by using slightly warmer water in the tanks.
Unique Cleaning Features
There are some unique features in the Freo that make it stand out from the competition. First, the Freo intertwines in its cleaning path, ensuring a more thorough clean than just simple passes. Second, it has a feature called Smart Swing that activates once a week (or more if you wish) to swing the Freo side to side so that the mops can reach corners and wall edges. Although this feature is a good idea, there were indeed moments when the Freo couldn’t capture some dust or small hair that gathered in corners, so you will need to clean the room manually from time to time. It is also worth noting that the Smart Swing feature can easily add an extra 30 to 45 minutes to your routine cleaning time, so be sure to plan accordingly if you are activating it manually.
Experience
Comprehensive Cleaning
Once the cleaning cycle is complete, you can view an overview of the cleaning performance in the Narwal app, which also includes an animation to make things more enjoyable. It’s entirely unnecessary, but who can complain. The report shows the areas that Freo paid extra attention to, allowing you to adjust your cleaning schedule for next time. The only thing that’s not good about the app is its ability to notify you when there’s a problem with Freo. Many times when Freo encountered issues or got stuck while no one was home, the app failed to issue a notification, which is frustrating. We hope this will be resolved with a future app update.
Interesting Home Investment
Narwal Freo is a gem for any home, and it is certainly an investment worth considering. There are still a few things that can be tweaked and improved in Freo 2.0, including better navigation around obstacles and a slightly more refined app. However, if you’re looking to tackle daily messes or if you just want to come back to clean floors, Freo does an excellent job of keeping spaces tidy.
