Learn more about Gemini, our most powerful AI model.

Introduction

Today, Gemini was launched, the largest and most capable artificial intelligence model – it is the next step in our journey to make AI beneficial for everyone. Gemini has been built from the ground up to be multimodal, capable of generalizing, understanding, and seamlessly integrating various types of information, including text, images, audio, video, and code. This means it has advanced multimodal reasoning capabilities and sophisticated programming abilities. With three different sizes – Ultra, Pro, and Nano – Gemini offers the flexibility to operate on everything from data centers to mobile devices. We have extensively trained Gemini on an AI-optimized infrastructure using Google’s fourth and fifth-generation Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). Today, we also announced the strongest and most scalable TPU system to date, the Cloud TPU v5p.

Gemini in Core Products

Gemini is available in some of our core products starting today: the Bard program uses a modified version of Gemini Pro for advanced reasoning, planning, understanding, and more. The Pixel 8 Pro is the first smartphone designed for Gemini Nano, utilizing it for features like summarization in the Recorder app and smart replies in the Gboard keyboard. We have already begun experimenting with Gemini in search, making the Search Generative Experience (SGE) faster. Early next year, we will be introducing Gemini Ultra in a new Bard Advanced experience. In the coming months, Gemini will enable features in more of our products and services like ads, Chrome, and Duet AI.

Building Gemini Applications

Android developers who want to build Gemini-powered applications on-device can now sign up for an early preview of Gemini Nano, our most efficient model, via Android AICore. Starting December 13, developers and enterprise customers will be able to access Gemini Pro via the API in Vertex AI or Google AI Studio, our free web developer tool. As we continue to enhance Gemini Ultra, including conducting comprehensive trust and safety checks, we will make it available to select groups before opening it widely to developers and enterprise customers early next year.
