History
Real Simple magazine was launched in 2000 with the goal of simplifying life and reducing stress. Today, we reach more than 10 million digital users and 6.2 million magazine readers each month.
Editorial Principles
At Real Simple, we pride ourselves on providing accurate, reliable, balanced, and interesting information, and we continuously review our content to ensure it is current and accurate. We are committed to creating high-quality content that represents and serves all people, and we work with a diverse group of writers and editors who represent a wide range of ages, races, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities, all of which is reflected in our content. We also strive to deliver high-quality content produced by humans, for humans. As part of our policies, we adhere to the principles of the promise of integrity in Dotdash Meredith content, including independence and integrity.
Independence and Integrity
We believe in independent, fair, and unbiased journalism. Our editors and writers bear a high responsibility regarding transparency and honesty, and our original editorial content is not influenced by our advertisers. Thus, we maintain a strict separation between advertising and editorial content. Any content provided by an advertiser or sponsor is clearly labeled as such.
Product Reviews
All product reviews on Real Simple’s site are independent and based on research and product testing conducted by our editors and writers. We share products that we love and believe our readers will love too. If you visit certain links within our content, we may earn commissions from your purchases. We do not receive any compensation for recommending products within our content.
Sources and Fact-Checking
Our writers and editors investigate claims and verify all information and data compiled for all articles, including news. We consult a diverse range of qualified sources to ensure we provide appropriate context and background for readers. We rely on current and trustworthy primary sources, such as expert interviews, government organizations, academic institutions, and professional studies. All data points, facts, and claims are supported by at least one credible source. All our news and information are thoroughly reviewed by our team’s editors and articles are rigorously evaluated for accuracy, relevance, and timeliness.
Corrections
If there is an error in a story, we will correct it as soon as possible. All corrections will be clearly explained and will include the changes made and when they were made. When an article is factually correct but the language is unclear or not detailed enough, the story may be updated without a notice from the editor.
Notices
Current and daily news stories cover a specific event in time, so they are not updated regularly. Our editorial team continually evaluates and updates evergreen content to ensure everything is current, accurate, and relevant. The timestamp at the top of each article reflects when it was last updated.
Diversity and Inclusion
At Real Simple, we aim to help everyone simplify their lives. A key aspect of achieving this goal is understanding the numerous structural and social barriers our readers face and responding with the most inclusive solutions. We know that Real Simple readers are not homogeneous: we represent many races, sizes, identities, and abilities, and we form different relationships and families while following various cultural and religious traditions. We want Real Simple to be a valuable resource for everyone, and we will use our platform to promote inclusivity, equality, and human rights.
