The new variant BA.2.86 of SARS-CoV-2 is still being surpassed by antibodies in the blood
The spike protein of the BA.2.86 variant – a sub-lineage of the Omicron virus – has a large number of mutations and is associated with a strong interaction with its receptor in host body cells. Despite these characteristics, BA.2.86 is not more resistant to antibodies than individuals vaccinated against the currently spreading dominant strains.
