Wu-Tang Clan Announces Residency in Las Vegas Coinciding with the Super Bowl

The Wu-Tang Clan – one of the most successful hip-hop groups – announced on Tuesday that they will begin a residency in Las Vegas over the Super Bowl LVIII weekend, joining acts like U2, Carrie Underwood, and Adele who are set to perform residencies in Las Vegas in 2024.

Main Information

“Wu-Tang Clan: The Wu-Tang Adventure Continues… Las Vegas Residency” will begin at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas Theatre on February 9 and 10 and will continue on March 22 and 23.

Virgin Hotels described the show as “an unprecedented Wu-Tang experience,” stating that the performance will be “a tribute to their creative journey as individuals and as the most iconic group in hip-hop history.”

Group leader RZA told The New York Times that the residency had been in the works for almost five years and that it “partially aims to elevate the genre” in hip-hop.

Pre-sale tickets for the residency will go on sale Tuesday at 12 PM Pacific Time, and general ticket sales will start at 10 AM Pacific Time on Friday.

What to Watch For

Additional dates are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Surprising Fact

The Wu-Tang Clan could be the first hip-hop residency in Las Vegas, according to The New York Times, which noted that it is “unclear” whether a hip-hop group has ever held a traditional residency in the city since its popularity rose in the 1940s.

Sidebar Detail

Las Vegas residencies had a strong year in 2023. U2 began their residency in the Sphere – a new venue that has been under construction for nearly five years and cost over $2 billion to build – with ticket prices starting at $140 plus fees, although resale tickets are selling for thousands of dollars. Additionally, Adele had a residency in Las Vegas this year – “Weekends with Adele” – which started last November and has been extended into June next year. While it’s not yet known how much revenue her Coliseum residency at Caesars Palace has generated, Billboard estimates, based on initial ticket sales, that Adele will take home $2 million from each show. Also, Katy Perry, one of the self-made richest women in America according to Forbes, had a residency at Resorts World that began in 2021 and concluded in November after 80 shows; the magazine estimates total revenue for this residency reached $168 million. Additionally, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Donny Osmond, Carrie Underwood, and Maroon 5 had residencies in Las Vegas last year.

The Big Number

$30.7 million. This is the revenue from the first 17 shows of U2’s residency, which ran through November 30, averaging $1.8 million per show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The residency continues until March 2024 and includes 23 shows not counted in that total revenue.

Main Background

The Wu-Tang Clan just finished their “New York State of Mind” tour with rapper Nas, which traveled through North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand from May to October. The group had a similar tour in 2022 from August to October. The Wu-Tang Clan formed in Staten Island, New York in 1992 and is known for hit songs like “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Protect Ya Neck.”
