A new coat of paint can work wonders for your home and increase its value by thousands of dollars. Below are the colors recommended by experts.
White
Ideal for kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and exteriors. If you’re looking for a color that brightens your home and makes spaces appear larger and more appealing, you can’t go wrong with white. “There is really only one color that increases – or rather, does not decrease – your home’s value, and that is white,” says Anthony Carrino, Vice President of Design at the online home building platform Welcome Homes. White is especially perfect for kitchens. “It attracts everyone by experience,” says Wendy McClure, Senior Designer at Lars Remodeling and Design. Committing to a neutral color like warm white allows potential buyers to envision themselves in the space – something that can be hindered by bold color. “Painting your home a light or neutral white will make it more marketable to the masses, making it look larger and like a clean slate,” says Walton.
Cream
Suitable for kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms. Cream is another neutral color that refreshes the space. “When we renovate properties, we love using light cream colors on the interior walls,” says Marina Famundi, a commercial real estate investor and founder of PropertyCashin. Famundi states that cream gives the room a welcoming feel and can increase the perceived value of the home by several thousand dollars.
Light Blue
Suitable for bathrooms and bedrooms. A 2021 survey by Zillow showed that light blue was the most popular bathroom paint color and can increase the home’s value by an average of $5,000. “Bathrooms are areas where homeowners want to feel relaxed; any color that helps enhance that feeling instantly increases the home’s value,” says Lynch. McClure notes that light blue can make a bathroom feel “inviting, cozy, and warm, but also more spacious.” Again, light blue is considered a neutral color appealing to a wider range of styles and tastes. “It’s said to be an easy-going color that conveys feelings of peace and tranquility,” says Kate Diaz, co-owner of Swanky Den, a home decor and interior design site.
Greige
Suitable for living rooms, bedrooms, and exteriors. Both gray and beige are excellent neutral options for interior decor, but if you can’t choose between them, greige offers a wonderful compromise. “Greige can be an alternative to white and gray, imparting a sense of elegance and sophistication,” says Warner Kirouga, a real estate investor and owner of Prestige Home Buyers. Greige will not only give your home a warm, elevated look, but it will also increase its value. “Painting your living room a neutral color like gray, beige, or light brown can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value, and it can be updated with white accents,” says Billy Carson, home care expert at Angi.
