Four Hezbollah-linked fighters were killed on Friday in an Israeli drone strike on their vehicle in southern Syria, according to a war monitor. The strike killed four fighters “operating on behalf of Hezbollah” in the town of Baath City in Quneitra province, near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, according to Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Israeli Strike in Syria
On the previous day, the organization that has a network of sources in Syria reported that Israel struck sites near Damascus with eight missiles, as well as a “military position belonging to the regime in Quneitra province,” without any human casualties. The strikes were in response to shelling from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, according to the monitor.
Israeli Attacks in Syria
Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria since the beginning of the civil war in the country in 2011, targeting Syrian army positions and groups linked to Iran, such as Hezbollah. These missions have intensified since Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, which was triggered by an unprecedented attack by the Islamist group on Israeli territory.

Israel rarely comments on its operations in Syria, but it says it aims to prevent Iran, its divided enemy, from establishing itself on Israel’s doorstep. Israel states that it targets sites belonging to the Syrian army and groups linked to Iran, such as Hezbollah, in an attempt to curb Iran’s influence in the region.
