A few years ago, Reza and Pooja were just employees in the tech industry who uploaded a dance video on YouTube. Things would change almost overnight.
The Beginning
In 2020, Reza and Pooja were just two people working in technology during the day while planning their wedding at night. They had many dance routines prepared, which is common at South Asian weddings. When they received their wedding video, the two suddenly decided to create a YouTube channel and post all their dances there. One morning, they woke up to discover that every dance video they had received millions of views. They were completely shocked.
Starting to Create Content
So, on January 18, 2021, they decided on one goal: to produce one short video every day for a year. Slowly but surely, they grew from hundreds of views to thousands and eventually to millions. Their channel was gaining up to 12,000 subscribers a day during some weeks.
Personalization and Documentation
Pooja decided to quit her job in April 2021 to dedicate more time to content creation, while Reza continued to work his daytime job and produce content at night with Pooja. It wasn’t until April 2022 that Reza resigned from his job and joined Pooja in content creation full-time.
Tips to Reach One Million Subscribers
Here are five tips that helped Reza and Pooja reach 1.86 million subscribers on YouTube:
1. Seize Every Second
In this extremely noisy environment, you must find a way to grab viewers’ attention and keep them watching your video from beginning to end. When we produce our videos, we consciously look for a scene change every two seconds, something happening, sound effects, zooming in with the camera, and so on. All these things keep the viewer engaged and watching your video. These things tell the algorithm to push your video to more people and make it go viral. We approach every video we make as if it could become viral.
2. Streamline the Production Process
We had a goal of producing one short video every day. This can be really challenging if you want to make each video unique. We focused on streamlining our production process to enable us to produce high-quality content in the shortest time possible. What we mean by that is to create every video with a similar structure but around different concepts. Now all you have to do is to fit each unique idea you have into the same video structure. Another way we do this is that we have a set of our favorite edits to use in the videos. So we often add sound effects, music, subtitles, and some zooming in. That’s it. It gets the job done for us, and we move on to the next video.
3. Produce Videos You Love
As a YouTube content creator, you can’t just think about the next few months of video production; you need to think about how to make this job last for decades. The only way that this job can work is by producing videos that you love. If at any point you feel you’re not enjoying the process or not enjoying what you’re creating, take a step back and reassess.
4. It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint
It’s great to have bold goals and want to reach a certain number of subscribers by a certain time, but the truth is it’s okay if you miss a day of posting or if you don’t hit your subscriber goal. Throughout our journey, we set numerous bold goals that we did not achieve. But we kept moving forward, and eventually, we reached them. Burnout is real in this profession, so take it slow.
5.
Don’t worry about the small details
One of the worst things is working hard on a video, only to see that it doesn’t achieve the expected success in your YouTube analytics. The views may be far fewer than you anticipated, or no one seems to like the video as much as usual. All these things can affect your mood, but the truth is that it doesn’t matter in the long game. Just keep producing content, focus on the next video, and work on developing yourself as a better creator. Views, subscribers, likes, and so on will come. We promise you ?
