Have you seen the movie “The Holdovers”? When my dad asked if we could go together, I hesitated because the trailer seemed to reveal the entire film (and many trailers do that, which is boring!), so I was pleasantly surprised when we went to the theater and discovered how rich and full the movie was with narrative threads! The story follows a kid stuck at his boarding school during the holidays, along with a feuding professor and a head chef, and I loved and believed in all the characters. (Here, the director narrates a scene in a liquor store if you want to see it.)
My Friend Grace’s Tree
How beautiful is my friend Grace’s tree? I decorated it with a picture of her beloved dog Cooper. It makes me dream of other things we could put on top of the tree: a red wool hat? A family photo? A teenager’s socks?
Holiday Playlist
If you’re in a musical mood, we played this holiday-inspired playlist when people came over to visit. Or, for a trip to Trader Joe’s or on the way back from work, here’s a funny three-minute podcast about two teenage babysitters deciding whether they should eat after the kids are asleep.
My Favorite Lipstick
Finally, I’m excited to use the lipstick that sells for just $7 at holiday parties. (It starts pink and you can layer it to make it red.) We’ll soon be doing an “Ask Me Anything” session on the Big Salad website, so please feel free to submit questions through this Google document, and I’ll do my best to answer! Thank you so much, as always. Cheers.
Note: More fun things, and what are your top three movies of all time?
