On April 16 of this year, I glued my hand to the pavement outside the Shell oil company’s headquarters in London, and I was surrounded by dozens of police officers. Once my hand was detached, I was arrested for criminal damage. I have been a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on three of its five assessment reports, and I have been an advisor in UN climate negotiations for nearly 30 years.
