The United States Shoots Down Two Missiles Launched by the Houthis

U.S. Central Command announced that the United States has shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group in Yemen, responding to a distress call from a commercial vessel in the Red Sea. U.S. Central Command mentioned in a social media post that the Singapore-flagged Maersk Hangzhou, owned by Denmark, reported being struck by a missile at 8:30 PM local time in Sana’a.

No Injuries Reported

The United States responded to the ship’s request for assistance and shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles from areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen. No injuries have been reported so far, according to Central Command.

Houthi Attacks on International Ships

These are the 23rd attacks by the Houthis on international vessels since November 19. The United States and several other countries have formed a significant maritime force to respond to attacks in the Red Sea.

Consultations Between the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands

At the same time, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke with his British and Dutch counterparts, Defense Secretary Grant Shapps and Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren, to discuss the ongoing illegal Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea. They noted that these attacks violate freedom of navigation protected under international law and threaten citizens of many countries.
