Scientists Deliberately Give People Coronavirus – This Is What They Learned

Half of the participants who were exposed to the virus developed infection, most with mild symptoms

A unique study on humans showed that healthy young individuals who were deliberately exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus developed mild symptoms – if any – in a COVID-19 challenge study. These experiments provide a unique opportunity to study viral infection in detail from start to finish, but they are controversial due to the risks they pose to the participants.
