‘Touch-Taste’: How the Octopus Reuses Its Nervous System for Hunting
The octopus hunts in crevices and gaps on the seabed using ‘touch-taste’ – the ability to detect chemical signals merely by touching them. Researchers have now identified the molecular structure of the chemical touch receptor that makes this possible. In this film, we explore the origins of this remarkable receptor and ask whether molecular evolution can explain the unique behaviors of the octopus.
