The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the country experienced 155 earthquakes since January 1, including one with a magnitude of 7.6 and another with a magnitude greater than 6. The agency clarified that most earthquakes were greater than 3 in magnitude and that the intensity is gradually weakening. It added that six strong tremors were felt across the country early Tuesday (January 2).

U.S. assistance offered to Japan

U.S. President Joe Biden offered assistance to Japan on Monday (January 1) following the deadly earthquake. Biden stated in a statement, “As close allies, the United States and Japan share a deep bond of friendship between our peoples.
