Animal welfare is a vital topic that is gaining increasing importance in the field of animal production, as it depends on several factors such as breeding systems and surrounding environments. The Arabian camel (Camelus dromedarius) is one of the animals that play an important social and economic role in arid and semi-arid regions. However, the issue of assessing the welfare of camels under traditional grazing systems remains underexplored. This article aims to review a new study that uses a tailored protocol to assess the welfare of working camels under nomadic grazing methods in southern Punjab, Pakistan. The study relies on a comprehensive assessment that includes 44 welfare indicators and explores the challenges and opportunities associated with the life of camels in a natural environment.
