The Interview

In this episode, Felix talks with Billie Balogun from Tribe Beauty Box. Tribe Beauty Box helps women discover beauty by sending five new full-size products every two months, and it was founded in 2017 in Toronto. Billie successfully built her business with over $360,000 in sales within 16 months. She discusses her vision for the company, how to build a strong brand, collaborate with other brands, and expand the business through Facebook groups.

Challenges and Successes

Billie talked about her core values in building a business focused on accessibility and empowerment, and how she was able to identify customer needs and build a relationship with them through engagement in Facebook groups, Reddit, and Twitter. She also spoke about the importance of diversity and equality in the beauty industry and how brands can respond to the needs of all individuals.

Turning Flaws into Strengths

Billie discussed how to turn flaws into strengths in building her business. Instead of waiting until she was completely ready, she decided to be transparent with customers and involve them in making important decisions. Additionally, she leveraged her lack of previous experience in the beauty industry to be adaptable, learn from customers, and develop her products based on their feedback.

Connecting with Customers

Billie talked about the importance of building a community and connecting with customers. She created a private Facebook group for Tribe Beauty Box customers, where members can share their favorite products, discuss products, and offer tips and ideas. Billie also uses email, Facebook, and YouTube to communicate with customers and provide them with valuable content.

Expansion and the Future

Billie talks about her plans for expansion in the future, including branching out to the UK and launching her own products. Billie believes that success lies in achieving her goals and providing a seamless experience for customers.
