Reports say that Taylor Swift’s massive “Eras Tour” has grossed over a billion dollars this year, making it the first tour to surpass this staggering figure in what has been a record-breaking year for concerts.
Main Information
Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” has achieved approximately $1.04 billion from 60 shows held in 2023, according to estimates published in Pollstar, a music industry publication that tracks total concert grosses.
This estimate makes the “Eras Tour” the highest-grossing tour in history, surpassing Elton John’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, which grossed around $939 million, according to a report published in Pollstar.
Pollstar noted that the “Eras Tour” broke the record for highest grossed concerts at an “unprecedented” speed, as John’s tour was the highest-grossing after 328 shows, more than five times the number of “Eras Tour” shows held thus far.
Key Background
This year has been a record year for concerts, according to a report published in Pollstar. The total global gross for the top 100 concerts this year reached $9.17 billion, a 46% increase from last year’s total of $6.28 billion. Ticket sales also rose from 59 million tickets sold in 2022 to 70 million in 2023.
Pollstar noted that global concert revenues had started to decline around 2019, when total revenues stalled at about $5.5 billion, but rebounded strongly after the pandemic. Pollstar observed that this year, women held the top two global tours for the first time in 15 years, with Taylor Swift’s tour and Beyoncé’s “Renaissance Tour” outperforming tours by Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, and Harry Styles. Beyoncé’s tour grossed a total of $579 million from 56 shows held in 2023.
