What is Jasper?
Jasper is an artificial intelligence tool that aims to be your all-in-one content creation store for your business. It is particularly good at tasks such as writing or optimizing marketing copy, developing a comprehensive content strategy, writing product content or summaries, summarizing Zoom meetings, creating social media posts, and helping to craft headlines.
How much does Jasper cost?
Jasper may seem like an expensive tool, but it offers a lot for the money. There is no free version. First is the Creator plan at a cost of $49 per month or $468 per year. It’s the basic plan and includes access for one user, brand voice (writing style you set for AI to adapt to your brand), 50 knowledge sources (information you feed the AI to train it on your business or brand), 50 templates, SEO mode, and access to a browser extension.
The next most cost-effective plan is the Professional plan, which costs $69 per month or $708 per year. It allows for three users and three brand voices. With Professional, you get everything in the Creator plan plus DIY templates, marketing campaigns, and a collaboration management tool.
The highest plan is the Business plan, which features custom pricing. There are no limitations on features and it includes access to the API, custom style guides, top-level security, an advanced management dashboard with permissions, and more.
What can Jasper do?
Let’s start by acknowledging that I, as someone who has been writing for half my life, have become a little concerned about the rise of artificial intelligence and AI writing tools specifically. My concerns were somewhat alleviated when I tested Bard and Chat GPT, as I found them lacking in the ability to write content and mediocre at best at researching anything. At one point, I was updating a guide for Kindle devices and thought about using Bard to research the topic. Imagine my surprise when it lifted content directly from an article I had written myself, word for word! While that may be encouraging, the instructions became inaccurate due to the program update – and there was no cited name either. (Image: Jasper / PC Mag)
After testing Jasper, I returned to being a little concerned. It’s a great tool if you know how to craft your prompts. Jasper has multiple use cases, but they are all business-focused. It can create marketing campaigns, write product descriptions for vendors, optimize or rewrite texts, generate headlines, identify topics of articles you might write, and create a list of topic ideas. It’s an ideal tool for companies needing to produce consistent content quickly.
Copywriters can also use Jasper to create engaging business bios on websites, develop Facebook or Google ads, create captions for shared images on Instagram, write video descriptions for YouTube or TikTok, and more. The possibilities are vast, and Jasper has them all organized in user-friendly templates.
If you don’t want to rely on templates, you can use Jasper in a more freeform manner by providing it with prompts and commands and questions.
Additional Tools and Use Cases
Jasper includes tools to ensure your content is not flagged as plagiarized by Google or anyone else. It features a plagiarism checker that intuitively scans your text for originality.
Jasper also has an integration settings gateway where you can, for example, enable Surfer SEO. This third-party tool provides you with feedback on your writing so you can better target it for search engine optimization. When using Surfer SEO with Jasper, you get a tab in your document editor that informs you of keyword research and other metrics you can use to shape your text accordingly. Integrations with Grammarly, Make.com, and Zapier are also available.

Among the other tasks that people commonly request from AI chatbots are text translation and code writing. Jasper can perform both of these tasks as well. Although you won’t find any code templates, you can simply open the chatbot and request the code in the same way you would in any other chatbot.
As for translation, you can obtain it with just one click. However, translation comes with some risks, so it’s best to have someone in your company who understands enough to verify the results.
If you want to create images, that’s also something Jasper can do. Jasper Art offers you many options to customize your creativity in freeform mode. You can start by writing a description of what you want to create and then choose a mood, medium, inspiration, style, and keywords. Alternatively, you can use one of the available templates, but there is less room for customization. As with all AI tools for creative images, the results can be hit or miss.
You can also use Jasper to start conversations with the chatbot. There are no restrictions on the number of questions you can ask, and you can always revisit your conversations.
How to Become the Best Prompt Engineer?
One of Jasper’s most useful tools is the academy. It’s a collection of tutorials that teach users how to use Jasper correctly and, consequently, other AI tools as well, by becoming the best prompt engineer. The most important thing you should do to achieve great results is to write a clear and descriptive prompt. Jasper Academy has many educational documents that teach you how to write high-quality entries, along with tips on creating the best campaigns and using the various available tools.
Setting Your Brand Voice and Knowledge Base
Using AI productively depends on how you craft your prompts. Jasper will also create content based on what you ask for and how you ask it.
When you start using Jasper, you should establish your brand voice. Setting it up is incredibly easy, as you only need to provide a URL of relevant text or copy and paste some sample text into Jasper.
Setting up Jasper’s brand voice allows you to create content in the same style and tone. You can also ask the AI tool to create text that is “clever” or “informative,” or in any other way that describes what you want. However, using your own company’s voice is beneficial when leveraging Jasper for business purposes.
Brands can also create a knowledge base to provide Jasper with more detailed information about products, the company, or relevant people; for instance (bios, product pages, and other data you input into Jasper to create a knowledge base called knowledge sources). This way, when you ask Jasper to generate a list of video ideas for a specific product, the AI knows what you’re talking about and can produce error-free text.
As a test, I created some knowledge base entries by feeding Jasper the URLs for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15. I then asked Jasper to compare the two devices using the two links. Jasper gave me a comprehensive comparison of the two devices, as you can see in the image below. (Image: Jasper / PC Mag)
Templates for a Variety of Business Needs
You can also use one of the many business templates offered by Jasper to generate content that fits your needs. Jasper has templates for Amazon product descriptions, product features, company bios for your site, email subject lines that people actually want to open, FAQ pages, marketing angles for your brand, just to name a few.
There are
Also, more fun templates to use. For example, Creative Story can give you some really funny concepts. I asked it to write a short story that overlaps between Alice in Wonderland and the CW show Supernatural, and the results were more than entertaining. While it is a character that Jasper clearly knows, pop culture completely eludes the artificial intelligence. “Everything was lost until Sam used his supernatural powers to create a return portal for himself, Dean, and Alice before vanishing into thin air without a goodbye,” this is a line written by Jasper. Kudos for getting the Winchester brothers’ names right.
There is also a template called “Explain It to a Child,” where you input text and the grade level, and Jasper simplifies the text for that reading ability. I used the introduction text from Wikipedia about polar bears to test it, and I have to say it is quite good. In the image below, the top response on the right is for grade level 12, followed by a version for grade 8 and a version for grade 4. (Image: Jasper / PC Mag)
Overcoming Writer’s Block
If you’re facing writer’s block, Jasper can generate ideas for you. Using the blog topic ideas template and inputting the company name, product description, and audience, you can get a plethora of great ideas for stories you can tackle.
If you want to create SEO-friendly content, Jasper has some templates for that too. Some are obvious as they use “SEO” in their names, while others are harder to track. The content rewriting template, for instance, lets you copy and paste any text you want to improve. Then, if you ask Jasper to focus on a specific keyword, it will do that.
Using Jasper as a Chatbot
You can also use Jasper as a chatbot. This feature is easily accessible and provides comprehensive answers to your questions.
According to a company representative, Jasper utilizes a variety of AI models, with GPT-4 being one of them. The company did not provide further details. (Image: Jasper / PC Mag)
I asked Jasper which phone has the best camera. You can choose a quick answer or a high-quality response. I chose the latter, and that’s exactly what I got. Jasper provided a list of the best phones, complete with reference links and thorough footnotes so I could follow every source. Bing Chat credits all its sources evenly. Google Bard mostly cites its sources, although it is not consistent.
Writing Test
I decided to test Jasper, Google Bard, and ChatGPT by asking them to perform the same task: “Write a 250-word blog post about the impact of artificial intelligence on education.”
In its response to the prompt, Jasper highlights the various implementations of artificial intelligence in education, noting how students can receive personalized learning plans to better suit their needs and abilities while teachers benefit from assistance in grading and evaluating assignments. Learning languages and translating is also easier with AI. However, Jasper did not mention any issues teachers face with students using AI to write essays or complete homework assignments that are of poor quality and unedited, filled with mistakes or hallucinations. (Image: Jasper / PC Mag)
ChatGPT’s response followed the same pattern, pointing out the opportunity to use AI to customize the educational experience for each student while providing teachers with instant assistance through virtual tutors and chatbots. The same point about using AI to grade papers is mentioned in this response. (Image: OpenAI / PC Mag)
While I hoped to get some diversity, I did not get it from Bard. Google’s tool uses the same pattern, placing the benefits of integrating AI in education front and center. However, Bard does point out some concerns regarding the decrease of human interaction in the classroom and worsening educational inequality, as students from low-income families may lack access to the same AI-supported tools and technology as their wealthier peers. The answer may not be completely comprehensive, but at least it shows more than one angle. (Image: Google / PC Mag)
All chat robots about the sources that led to the creation of their texts, and Bard only provided a list of the articles used. However, the issue can be resolved by modifying the prompt to ask for the negative impacts of artificial intelligence in education and quote the sources. (It’s another example of the importance of writing a clear and concise prompt.) The downside is that they only provided the names of the articles used; you will need to search for them because the chatbots did not include any links. Marketing Test
In a separate test, I asked Jasper, Chat GPT, and Google Bard to do some marketing campaign work for a tool I created called ABC AI.
With Jasper, I created a campaign with this simple overview: “ABC AI is a tool aimed at helping teachers tailor their teaching approach to the individual needs of each student.” I asked it to create various content for me, including a blog post, a FAQ page, a landing page for the website, and even ads for Google and Facebook.
It took about a minute, but the campaign page quickly filled with everything I needed. Jasper also offers the opportunity to create more content, from TikTok scripts to LinkedIn posts to newsletters.
Although the prompt was very simple, Jasper did a great job creating text for the brand website and FAQ page. Even the ad ideas were quite good. (Image: Jasper / PC Mag)
Jasper understood what was required from the brand created and provided the full purpose of the brand. However, the text is compelling and cohesive. (Image: OpenAI / PC Mag)
Bard understood the task in the same way and provided a landing page filled with key points. (Image: Google / PC Mag)
The beauty of Jasper is that I didn’t provide any additional prompts for each piece of content I wanted, as they were all generated wholesale from the start. It’s very efficient and ensures the campaign is cohesive.
Although I created a simple fictional product for Jasper to create all this content, brands can add their actual offers and documents, giving Jasper more to work with.
Comprehensive Content Store
Jasper is a highly useful destination for businesses looking to build a comprehensive online presence through their websites, press releases, social media content, ads, etc. If you’re planning to use AI in your business to create content, you should definitely consider Jasper. It not only creates above-average texts but writes them in a style and adapts them for specific media. For that reason, it earns the title of the publishers’ editor. However, we always encourage human oversight and careful fact-checking before publishing any work from Jasper.
